TestDisk is a free program to scan the hard disk that serves as a recovery of deleted disk partitions. The program can recover lost partition, partition repair list and even to rewrite the MBR again. TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.12 Beta are two applications and open source platform that let you recover lost partitions, restore the master boot sector of certain file systems and recover lost files.
TestDisk & PhotoRec 6.12 Beta not have GUI, so that all operations must be done from Terminal. Check the documentation of the program to learn to use the program.
TestDisk is compatible with many file systems, including those belonging to Mac OS X: HFS, HFS + and HFSX, although in this case can only recover the partition structure. If run on FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 or NTFS, you can restore the master boot sector.
PhotoRec is the tool that handles the file recovery. You can work with virtually any device, from hard drives to portable drives such as USB sticks, memory cards, media players.
