SmartSniff 1.90 is a tool to show the contents of the package running on a WiFi network. The communications that take place via TCP / IP can be read in ASCII or hexadecimal. It has two different capture methods: Raw Sockets and WinPcap Capture Driver. The first one does not need to install additional software, although its functionality is limited. Therefore, we recommend using the second.
The result of the scan can be stored in three different formats: TXT, HTML and XML. The program lets you create filters for packages from a certain port, IP address, and so on.
SmartSniff 1.90 lets you view captured packets as sequences of conversation between clients and servers. You can see the conversation TCP / IP ASCII mode (for text-based protocols such as HTTP, SMTP, POP3, or FTP) and hexadecimal mode (for text-based protocols do not like DNS).
SmartSniff 1.90 provides two methods for capturing TCP / IP:
- Raw Sockets (Only for Windows 2000, Windows XP or higher) allows you to capture TCP / IP on your network without installing any software captor. The downside is that this method has some limitations and problems.
- WinPcap Driver: Allows you to capture TCP / IP from any Windows operating system. To use, you must install WinPcap software (freeware that will find on this website).
The latter method is usually the method chosen to capture packets using SmartSniff 1.90, mainly because it works better than the method of Sockets.
