It's here. Microsoft today launched its free antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2 , also known by its code name inelegant, Morro. A few months ago we reviewed the beta version of what promised to be an easy to use antivirus, with few trifles, fit, in short, to all audiences.
The feelings that we kept. Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2 is a solid antivirus, not too light, but rather light in each operation. As usual, requires a genuine copy of Windows to be installed, to be expected if we consider that it was necessary for Windows Defender.
The Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2 installation requires fewer steps. One is the usual validation of the copy of Windows. Moreover, we have seldom seen an installer so bland and bloodless. It is a triumph of the target.
Beyond aesthetic considerations, the XP version of Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2 takes about twelve megabytes on the hard disk after installation. At rest, spends about sixty megabytes of memory, rising to over a hundred during the on-demand scan. These figures are very reasonable with the times.
The first thing is to disable Windows Defender MSE - which, according to Microsoft, no longer needed - and update its signature database. Updates are, thankfully, free for everyone. There are no notable developments regarding the beta: all the features we discovered (quarantine, history, task scheduler) are still there. Shortcomings included.
Indeed, Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2 does not solve two problems that had arisen with the beta, that is, the lack of action and the possibility disinfected unplugged from the Microsoft SpyNet , designed to gather samples of millions of malware computers. Failure, on the other hand, perfectly ignorable by the vast majority of users for each target MSE.
A lack of conclusive data about its performance, we pass the word. Have you tried and Microsoft Security Essentials for XP 1.0.2? What do you think? Do you recommend it to your friends?
