OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 Final: The Most Popular Free Office Suite

Here's the new version of OpenOffice.org, the most popular free office suite. It is not yet the official release, but it is very stable and allows you to sample the major new features, including compatibility with the formats of Office 2007.

If you are a user fond of OpenOffice.org and have now finally ended with Microsoft Office, you should try this final release of version 3.0.

OpenOffice.org includes Writer (word processor), Calc (spreadsheet), Impress (presentation), Base (database), Math (mathematical formulas) and Draw (vector graphics). The program works with many formats and can export documents directly into PDF.

One of the most important new features of version 3.0 of OpenOffice.org is the ability to open Open XML introduced in Office 2007, and others. Docx,. Xlsx and. Pptx. As for the interface, icons and some details have been reviewed, but the design is very similar to that of the previous version and we expected a better from this point of view.

More news of OpenOffice.org 3.0 include a window startup, called Start Center, to access different applications and templates, support columns in 1024 spreadsheets, a feature for improved crop images in Draw and Impress, and ability to display multiple pages of text while working in Writer.

We await the official release, localized in Italian, to give a more complete view. In any case, with this new version OpenOffice.org seems to remain the best package of freeware software for office, although we would have liked to see some 'more innovation.
